Giving back to the community

Not long after I entered the world of real estate I realized Realtors are a passionate group of people who care about their clients, each other, and their communities.  Many Calgary based Realtors are heavily involved in a wide variety of local, provincial, and national charities.  The charity I have chosen to be involved with is the Canadian Progress Club – Calgary City Centre.

The Canadian Progress Club (CPC) is a national organization that has chapters in cities across the country.  Each chapter is run separately but all operate under the same aims and objectives. We work specifically to strengthen our communities through fund raising and hands on volunteer work with groups who need our help.  Our motto is “It’s Great to be a Canadian.  Soyons Fiers D’Être Canadiens.”

For me, involvement with the Canadian Progress Club has been very rewarding.  Last year, the Calgary City Centre Women’s Club exceeded its fundraising goals. This directly benefited our charity of choice – Sonshine Community Services, who will receive a $50,000 cheque from us this month!  Once a month we volunteer to serve dinner at Inn from the Cold, Calgary’s Emergency Family Shelter which is another great way to give back.  Nationally, in 2014, CPC donated over $1,000,000 back to their community groups across Canada.  The money raised inCanada stays inCanada!

Volunteering is a great way to continue to improve ourselves and our communities.  There is a good sense of camaraderie, fun and fellowship.  If you have time, consider volunteering with the Canadian Progress Club.  You can learn more about the organization here.  Check out the Calgary City Centre chapter on Facebook

The Canadian Progress Club is not the only way that Realtors give back.  Check out this incredible organization that was established in Calgary: the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation has donated over $5,000,000 to Calgary and area charities and non-profit organizations, since it was founded in 1987.  Like I said, Realtors care about their communities!

Do you have a favourite charity that helps Calgary based organizations?  Tell me about it on Twitter.  You might inspire someone to donate their time and talents!
