Residential real estate is like the weather:  everyone loves to talk about it and everyone has a different perspective.  While it can be helpful to talk with family and friends about their own real estate experiences, you should also consult trusted experts when thinking of buying or selling a home.  I have put together a list of resources for you.

Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, also known as CMHC, has been around for more than 65 years and is a proven authority on Canadian housing trends.  They publish information on their website about buying a home, mortgage loan insurance, financial assistance and more.

Calgary Real Estate Board

The Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) is one of the largest real estate boards in the country.  It is a professional body represented by over 5200 licensed brokers and registered associates.  CREB is a highly effective network of local authorities that work cooperatively to help Buyers and Sellers in Calgary and surrounding communities.  Their website has a huge library of resources for Buyers and Sellers.  The organization also publishes monthly housing statistics and summaries, neighbourhood profiles, as well as semi-annual forecast reports.  This is an excellent resource for up to date information about Calgary residential real estate market conditions.

Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Calgary Region

The Calgary region chapter of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) is a helpful resource for anyone looking to build or buy a newly constructed home.  The association represents new home builders, trades, suppliers, land developers, and professional companies that are involved in new home construction and the development of new neighbourhoods.  For Buyers, this organization offers excellent resources regarding affordable housing, market trend reports, best practices, and more.

Your Realtor

A trusted and experienced Realtor is a wonderful source of knowledge, advice, and expert information.  Your Realtor can provide you with up to date and detailed reports about market activity in your neighbourhood and areas where you are looking to buy.  These reports include critical information such as the selling price of homes and how many days they were on the market.

When learning about the Calgary real estate market, be sure to draw your information for various reputable sources so that you have an accurate picture of current market conditions.
