It should come as no surprise that a well-organized home is more appealing to prospective Buyers than a home that is in disarray.  Even when you are not planning on selling anytime soon, an organized house is simply more enjoyable.  In my years as a Realtor, I have seen organization hacks that work and many that do not.  Here are my top tips for easy (yes, easy!) home organization.

1. Get rid of 5 things every day

Does that sound like a lot?  Trust me, it is not.  Take a few minutes every day to get rid of 5 things.  This can be anything from old paperwork that needs to be recycled, toys that can be passed along to friends, or clothes that can be donated.  This simple habit can help stop clutter from piling up around your home.

2.  Find a place for everything

Your home will never be organized if you constantly have things that have no real place to live.  Everything you bring into your house should have a proper spot where it is stored.  If you have things with no home, either create a space or get rid of the item.  The benefit of this is two-fold.  You will eliminate those random piles of stuff around your house and you will always know where to find things when you need them.

3.  Use blank spaces

By hanging shelves, you can create vertical storage.  You can put the backs of your doors to work using over the door organizers.  Storage does not just take place in cupboards and closets.  Take a look around your house for other areas that can be used.  With so many cute baskets and organizers on the market today, you can make these functional spaces look like a work of art!

4.  Get contained

Contain similar items into one area using baskets, containers, or drawers.  While there are many great organizing products available, you do not need to spend any money to start containing your things.  Use empty boxes, jars, or snack containers.  Tour Pinterest to find more tips and tricks on how to create functional storage from things you already have on hand.

5.  More tiers, less tears

Tiers are a great way to maximize the space you have on shelves, in cupboards, and on your desk.  You can buy inexpensive shelf tiers from almost any dollar store and use them to maximize your space and make it easier to reach items.  No more emptying out the entire pantry to find that one can of soup you need.  Items stacked on tiers are easily accessible.

The key to getting and staying organized at home is simply making the decision to get started and sticking with it.  A little bit of organization every day goes a long way!
