Homes across Calgary are cloaked in spooky decorations and there are ghosts and goblins ready to hit the streets on Halloween.  If you are a fan of all things that go bump in the night, you must check out some of Calgary’s rumoured haunted places.

The Deane House, located in Inglewood, has long been thought to be haunted.  This home was built in the early 1900’s and belonged to a high ranking officer in the Royal North West Mounted Police.  Over the years there have been reports of disconnected phones that ring, unexplained cigar smoke, and blood stains that mysteriously change in size.

The downtown Knox United Church is another famous landmark that has been plagued by rumours of supernatural activity.  Some people believe that this beautiful building is haunted by many different spirits.  Regular members of the congregation report hearing unexplained footsteps and seeing a young woman walk through doors.

The Devil’s Playground is an abandoned school site located at the eastern edge of the Calgary city limits.  This area has a reputation for being one of the most haunted places in the country!  According to local storytellers, there was a school house fire here and three children perished.  Even though the area is deserted, multiple visitors to the site have reported hearing children playing, eerie unexplained creaking noises, and the sounds of a woman screaming.

The Fairmont Palliser Hotel is home to esteemed guests and ghosts.  Guests and staff have reported hearing unexplained noises and seeing ghosts wandering throughout the hallways.  On October 31, the hotel is hosting a Spooky Tea and Talk to share some of their scariest stories of hauntings and spirits.

It should come as no surprise that one of Calgary’s most popular historic tour attractions is also haunted.  Reportedly, two of the houses located at Heritage Park are haunted.  Staff and visitors have reported unexplained phenomenon at the Prince House and the Canmore Opera House.  There are stories of malfunctioning lights, windows opening and closing on their own, loud footsteps, misplaced objects, mysterious voices, and ghostly apparitions.

Other places in Calgary where people have described supernatural experiences include Suitor House, Rose and Crown Pub, Rouge Restaurant, Lougheed House, Cat n’ Fiddle Pub, and even the Zoo Bridge.
