It is possible to sell your home and not tear your hair out in the process!  I have helped countless homeowners successfully sell their homes and these are my best tips to take the stress out of selling.

1. Hire a Realtor

You had to know I was going to list that one first, right?  In all seriousness, having a Realtor can be a huge stress saver for you.  Let us handle all the details like booking showings, negotiating the best deal possible, and wrapping up the paperwork.

2. Get a home inspection

Getting a home inspection before your house hits the market can help with developing the best possible marketing and pricing strategy.  A home inspection can uncover any hidden problems that you need to address before bringing Buyers through your house.

3. Cleaning checklist

There may be times when you get a call about a last minute showing.  Be prepared to say “Yes!” to these calls by having a plan in place to get your home ready quickly.  Instead of running around the house wondering what needs to be tidied up, put together a checklist that walks you through the major areas that need attention before Buyers show up.

4. Know the market in your area

It is important to understand what is happening in the residential real estate market in your area.  Do homes on your street take months to sell?  Knowing what to expect in terms of timelines will help to alleviate unnecessary anxiety.

5. Ignore well-meaning advice and anecdotes

Did your Uncle Joe sell his home in less than 12 hours?  Great for him.  Did your co-worker just tell you story about a house in her area that sat on the market for two years and finally sold for pennies?  Everyone loves to talk about buying and selling houses and people always have anecdotes that either give you hope or fill you with dread.  Walk away from these conversations.  Every sale is different.

6. Follow up on your Realtor’s advice

Realtors know what matters when selling a home.  If your Realtor suggests that you try staging your home, doing a major declutter, or asks you to make small repairs then you need to promptly follow up on these recommendations.  I promise we are not just making busy work for you.

7. Ask questions

Sometimes, it is all of the unknowns that create the most stress and anxiety during the home selling process.  Instead of worrying, simply ask your Realtor for more information.  A good Realtor is happy to spend time with you to answer your questions and give you all the information you need to feel good about the process.

Selling a house can be stressful, but the stress does not have to be all-consuming.  Feel free to contact me anytime to talk more about selling your home with as little stress as possible.
